Department of Medicine

The department has office accommodation for teaching and non teaching staff; a 25 seater clinical demonstration room with audiovisual aids; departmental library cum seminar room with adequate books and a well equipped research laboratory. There are 3 rooms in OPD for examining patients; a total of 120 teaching beds are managed by 4 units of staff, a 4 bedded intensive care unit and a 6 bedded, ultra modern, well equipped intensive coronary care unit. Average daily OPD is 200 and the average bed occupancy is 90%.

The facilities include ventilator, central cardiac monitor, bed side cardiac monitors, defibrillators, pulse oxy-meter, arterial blood gas analysis, gluco-meters, laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, ultra sound machine trade mill test machine, haemodialysis, spectrometer, gamma cameras, radio-isotopes scan laboratory, EEG, EMG, flow meters, radio-pager, microscopes, projectors, spriro-meter, ECG, Echocardiography, aspiration needles besides routine equipments and instruments of investigations and management.

The teaching methodology includes 200 lectures, 12 seminars, 60 tutorials and 26 weeks of clinical posting concurrently in OPD and IPD. Students are trained to handle casualties, attend clinico-pathological conferences and maintain a record of the case histories. Interns are posted for a duration of 3 months.

The activity of department include teaching, examination and management of patients and conducting multi diagnostic camps in the near by village.

Diagnostic facilities available in the department include portable X-ray machine, 2 USG and 2 Decks, various monitors, computer stress testing, A.B.G. monitoring and multiparameters.

There is well equipped intensive care unit (ICU) which is monitored round the clock by RMOs and trained nursing staff on duty. There is bedside monitoring, central oxygen facility, ventilators, defibrillators, electrical suction machines and all equipments for advanced life support are available.

Super-specialty clinics run by the department include diabetes mellitus, nephrology, HIV / AIDs education, neurology, cardiology and endocrinology.
