Department of Paediatrics

The department has accommodation for teaching and non teaching staff; a 25 seater clinical demonstration room; library cum seminar room with adequate books on pediatrics and neonatology, and a research laboratory. The department works as 2 units and there are total 60 beds, besides a 10 bedded pediatric intensive care unit and a 10 bedded intensive care nursery with temperature & humidity control. Average daily OPD is 75 and indoor admissions are 10. Well baby clinic, immunization clinic, child guidance and child rehabilitation clinics are conducted once a week.

The facilities include projectors, screen, microphone, infant incubator, radiant warmer, phototherapy unit, ophthalmoscope, laryngoscope, suction apparatus, oxygen cylinder & humidifiers, weighing machine, nebulisers, blood transfusion sets, face mask, ambu bag, microscope and side lab, besides routine instruments & equipments.

The department is recognized by CPS, Mumbai for P.G and accordingly 3 students are admitted per term for DCH. The teaching methodology includes 40 lectures, 10 demonstrations, 10 tutorials, and 10 seminars. Students are posted in pediatrics for 10 weeks in OPD & IPD, and they maintain a record of the case histories. There is integrated teaching with surgery, orthopedics, ENT & ophthalmology. Students attend clinico- pathological conference every month. The period of posting of the interns in pediatrics is 31 days.
