Courses Details
The physiology course emphasizes on comprehensive applied understanding of physiology, enables the student analyze and interpretation of real life clinical scenario involving multiple organ systems. The objective of this course is to enable the student to acquired understanding of the concepts and principle of mechanisms of different organ systems of human body in health and disease. The teaching program consists of three main parts viz illustrative learning sessions, laboratory sessions and case/problem based learning exercises.
The illustrative lessons are a series of interactive lectures designed to provide basic conceptual understanding of the various physiological mechanisms of the human body. The laboratory sessions provide a practical output towards monitoring, measuring and interpreting the physiological parameters. The case/problem based sessions are designed to provide an opportunity to the students to interpretation the abnormal physiological mechanisms in various diseases states and thus provide a practical approach to understand the anatomy, biochemistry, mechanisms of diseases, epidemiology and biostatistics involved with the cellular physiology, pathology, pharmacology of treatment and possible surgical intervention needed to become physician.
The department provides competency based teaching learning facilities to first year MBBS students. The department also imparts teaching & training to first year dental and first year B.Sc. Nursing courses. The department is full-fledged with staff, instruments, and books according to current MCI norms.
FACILITIES
Department has following spacious, well-equipped laboratories as per the requirement of medical council of India.
1. Experimental practicals: ICT based software for animal experiment is subscribed for demonstration. Each student has been provided with login and password individual hands on experience.
2. Hematology laboratory : well equipped with facilities for individual microscopes, and other necessary apparatuses and equipments.
3. Clinical laboratory. : Equipped with ECG, EEG, NCV, digital BP instruments, bicycle ergograph, perimeter, CPM, spirometers, PFT machine, and instruments required for clinical skills learning
4. Research lab : with instruments are shared for conducting departmental research projects
5. Departmental library : having latest editions of books 108 books and e-journals.
6. Demonstration hall. : equipped with LCD and other audiovisual aids & streaming facilities for live presentation having sitting capacity of 60 students
Teaching- learning activities: includes various activities for undergraduate students like didactic lectures, student’s seminars, integrated lectures, case based presentation by students, Problem based learning session, early clinical exposures session, Self directed learning, group learning session, Poster presentation competitions, and Role play. Special teaching –learning activities are practiced for slow and advanced learners.
Undergraduate students are also motivated and provided all the required help for ICMR research projects. Staff members are also actively performing various research activities.
Special attention is given to slow performers through remedial classes, assignments, periodical sessions for case study discussion.
